01 · Magic and witchcraft

Sihr

A pact with the shayāṭīn to harm, separate or control — one of the seven destructive sins. It is real, it is forbidden, and it is cured by the Quran.

How it can show

  • Sudden, unexplained hatred or coldness between spouses
  • Blockage: things that were open now stay shut, again and again
  • Sickness doctors cannot place, worse at particular times

How it is cured

  • Ruqyah with the verses of sihr and Al-Falaq / An-Nās
  • Finding and undoing the sihr where Allah makes it possible
  • Recited water, olive oil, and Sūrat al-Baqarah in the home

Never go to a ‘healer’ who uses jinn, talismans or unknown words — that is sihr treating sihr.

02 · A look that carries harm

The evil eye

“The evil eye is real.” A gaze of admiration or resentment — from a friend, a stranger, even yourself — that leaves illness, loss or accident behind it.

How it can show

  • A child or adult who suddenly weakens after being praised
  • Yawning, heaviness and low mood with no medical cause
  • Belongings and blessings that break or fade after being shown

How it is cured

  • Ruqyah with Al-Falaq, An-Nās and Ayat al-Kursī
  • The ghusl of the one whose eye struck, if they are known
  • Saying ‘mā shā’ Allāh, bārak Allāh’ — and teaching others to

It is not envy — the eye can come from someone who loves you. Do not accuse; protect and treat.

03 · Ḥasad — wishing the blessing gone

Envy

The first sin in the heavens and the first on earth. Ḥasad harms the envied — and burns the envier. Al-Falaq names it as the last thing we seek refuge from.

How it can show

  • Harm that follows a particular person’s attention
  • Repeated setbacks around one blessing: job, marriage, child
  • Restlessness and dread that lifts with dhikr

How it is cured

  • Ruqyah and the morning and evening adhkār, without fail
  • Guarding your blessings quietly; ‘seek help in secrecy’
  • Ṣadaqah, and asking Allah for the envier

Envy is also a disease of your own heart — the cure includes wanting good for others.

04 · Jinn touch and possession

Possession

The jinn can enter and afflict a person — the Quran and Sunnah affirm it, and so do the scholars. But most seizures, voices and mood changes are medical. Both truths matter.

How it can show

  • Aversion to the Quran, adhān or dhikr; strong reactions during ruqyah
  • Nightmares of animals, heights, graves; sleep paralysis that repeats
  • Episodes of absence or altered voice — after a full medical assessment

How it is cured

  • Ruqyah: Al-Baqarah, Ayat al-Kursī, the last verses, and the mu‘awwidhāt
  • Consistency: daily recitation, adhkār and prayer close the door
  • Medical care continued throughout — never stopped

Stopping medication because someone said ‘it is jinn’ has caused deaths. Medicine first, ruqyah alongside.

05 · Waswasa and doubts

Whispers

The shayṭān whispers — in prayer, in purification, in belief. The Prophet ﷺ called the distress it causes “clear faith”. Some of it, though, is OCD, and that has a treatment too.

How it can show

  • Doubts in wuḍū’ and ṣalāh that make you repeat and repeat
  • Blasphemous or frightening thoughts you hate having
  • Endless ‘what if’ about the past, sin, or Allah’s forgiveness

How it is cured

  • Seek refuge, stop, and do not follow the thought
  • Sūrat an-Nās, and the du‘ā of ‘Uthmān ibn Abī al-‘Āṣ
  • Therapy for OCD alongside — it is not weak faith

Do not repeat prayers or washing to satisfy a doubt — that feeds it. Ignore, and carry on.
