When It's Someone You Love

Treating a spouse, a child or a parent — the practical and the emotional, together.

Reciting over someone you love is not the same as reciting over yourself. You cannot feel what they feel, you are frightened in a way you never are for yourself, and you have to hold a relationship steady while you do it. This course covers the method adapted to a spouse, a child and a parent; what to do when they refuse; the evil eye inside a household; and how to carry a long illness without breaking yourself.

Read a section

Two or three hundred words on one idea, with the verse or the hadith right there beside it.

Do something with it

A question, a pair to match, an order to put right. The lesson will not close until they are done.

Keep what you learn

Notes, highlights and progress travel with your account — and wait for you where you stopped.

Before you start

Isthiscourseforyou?

It is written for one kind of reader, and it is honest about who it will not help.

Yes, if…

  • Your husband or wife is unwell and you are the one doing the reciting
  • You have a child who is frightened, sleepless, or unwell, and you want to help them properly
  • You are caring for a parent, and the usual order of authority is reversed
  • Someone in your family is convinced they are afflicted, and you do not know how to respond
  • Someone in your family refuses help — from you, from a doctor, or from both
  • You have been carrying this for a long time and it is wearing you down

Not yet, if…

  • You have not covered the basics — Foundations comes first, and it is free
  • You want to diagnose a family member — no course can do that, and this one will argue you should not try
  • You are looking for leverage to make someone accept treatment they do not want
  • You are training to treat the public — that is the Raqi Course

By the end

Whatyou'llbeabletodo.

Not a reading list — a set of things you will actually be able to do when you close the last lesson.

I can help the person I love without frightening them, without accusing anyone, and without losing myself in it.
The finish line
  1. 01Recite over a spouse, a child or a parent using the method the Sunnah actually gives for it
  2. 02Keep a child's session short, calm and free of fear — and know the one thing you must never explain away
  3. 03Read reactions in another person without over-reading them
  4. 04Respond when someone refuses ruqyah, refuses the doctor, or wants to see a magician
  5. 05Handle the evil eye inside a household without turning it into an accusation
  6. 06Know what is not yours to fix, and stay standing through a long illness

The shape of it

Howit'sbrokendown.

Five modules. The first two are method; the middle two are the hard human situations — refusal, and the eye inside a family; the last is about you, because the person doing the reciting is usually the one nobody is looking after.

  1. 01Before you recite over anyoneWhat changes when it is not you: consent and dignity, the heavier medical duty, and the diagnosis you must not make.4 lessons · 39 min
  2. 02The method, adaptedThe session over another person — the hand on the pain, the du'ās for it, children, a spouse, a parent, and how to read reactions.5 lessons · 54 min
  3. 03When they will not have itThe person who refuses ruqyah, the one who refuses the doctor, and the relative being pulled towards a magician.4 lessons · 41 min
  4. 04The eye inside a familyIt comes from love more often than from malice — the wash from the Sunnah, and why you must never hunt for a culprit.3 lessons · 29 min
  5. 05Carrying itThe long illness, the boundaries, and the person nobody is looking after — you.3 lessons · 36 min

Before you begin

Whatyou'llneedandwhatthiswillnotdo.

What you'll need

  1. 01Foundations first — Self-Ruqyah, Properly is a strong second, though not required
  2. 02A free account, so your progress and notes are kept
  3. 03About four hours in total
  4. 04No Arabic required — everything is given in Arabic, transliteration and English

Most people take a fortnight or so, and the middle modules are worth reading slowly.

What this course does not do

  • It does not diagnose anybody, and it will actively discourage you from trying to
  • It does not replace medical or mental-health care — that comes first, and more urgently when the person is not you
  • It does not teach you to treat the public, run sessions, or charge for anything
  • It does not teach anything requiring a practitioner, an object, or a fee

Everything here teaches — nothing here treats. Medical care always comes first, and healing is by Allah's permission.
