General ruqyah

The short core set of 16 passages for a general ruqyah.

Evil eye and envy (‘ayn and ḥasad)

"These verses are recited for cases of the evil eye and envy."

Sihr

"These verses are recited for cases of sihr."

Healing and tranquillity (shifā’ and sakīnah)

Burning (harq)

"These verses are recited with concentration and repetition, blowing continuously on the body — especially where the pain is concentrated. They may also be recited over water, oil, honey and the like, and used with the intention of burning the affliction, whether it is an evil eye, mass (possession) or sihr. These verses are abridged; there are also the verses of punishment, but the focus here is on the verses of burning, and repeating the underlined parts has a strong, severe effect by Allah's permission."

Knowledge and wisdom (‘ilm and ḥikmah)

"These verses are recited by a person afflicted with an evil eye or sihr affecting their studies, understanding and intelligence — and everything related to knowledge. It is not a condition to recite all of them."

Creation and the greatness of Allah

"These verses are recited over the atheists among the devils, and those in open disbelief; they have a strong effect in bringing them to Islam, weakening them, and establishing the proof against them."

Marriage, divorce and the womb

"These verses are recited for many matters: sihr of separation (tafriq), envy of spouses, and also for the 'lover' jinn (mass 'ashiq), for childbearing, and for the evil eye, envy and sihr settled in the womb. These are the ones recorded on the tape."

Devils and jinn

"These verses are recited to expose the jinn in the body; they also work like the verses of punishment."

Punishment ('adhab)

"These verses have a great effect on the transgressing jinn; they are severe and powerful against all the devils. The one dominating may flee, may be burned, and may be seriously harmed — especially when the words of punishment and Fire are repeated."

Subjugation and might (qahr and ‘izzah)

"These verses are severe on the 'ifrits, the kings of the jinn and the hardened sorcerers; they are a strong weapon against every arrogant tyrant — they subdue them, exhaust them and terrify them."

Honouring parents and keeping family ties

"These verses are recited over the person whom the devils dominate because of sihr or the evil eye and make them disobey/cut off their parents or one of them. On reciting them the one afflicted by 'ayn or sihr feels tingling and movements and may fall (sar'); thus he learns he is afflicted."

Oppression (zulm)

"Their effect on the dominating jinn is to establish the proof against it, call it, and frighten it with the consequence of oppression. The Muslim jinn is affected by them and may leave the body after hearing such verses; and they are severe on the disbelieving jinn."

Victory and opening (fath and nasr)

"These verses are powerful in difficult cases (kings of the jinn, sorcerers, rebels and [jinn] priests), especially if recited with humility, or with force and a raised voice."

Patience (sabr)

"These verses are recited [over the patient] and the patient recites them himself: they contain steadfastness, consolation and treatment — and a severe punishment on the afflicting agent, because they frustrate their souls and resolve and nullify their work; the patient's patience is itself a cause of nullifying their works and making them despair."

Worship (ṣalāh, khushū‘ and sujūd)

"These verses are recited in burning the evil eye and envy — and the envier from among the jinn and devils — in matters of worship; likewise they are recited over the disobedient [Muslim] jinn, and in calling the disbelieving jinn."

Kindness, charity and spending

"People of charity and kindness are affected by these verses if they are envied — some fall (sar'), some scream, some have a trembling hand, and one tore his garment. Likewise in cases of sihr done to stop money being spent — e.g. a wife who bewitched her husband so he would not give charity or do good, because she wanted the money he was giving."

Blessings (ni'mah)

"These verses expose the one who envies a blessing; they are recited for the evil eye, envy, sihr and mass, and their effect is remarkable."

Expulsion (khuruj)

"These verses are severe and powerful for the exit of the mass, or for exhausting and burning it, and even for extracting sihr from the body or the house, by repeating them a great deal."

Planets and stars

"The effect of these verses is in cases of sihr linked to the stars and the moon and everything connected to the planets."

Birds

"These verses harm the jinn of the flying type and make it appear; how many cases show nothing — yet on reciting these verses you see the strangest things."

The sea and diving

"These verses are recited to expose the diving (sea) jinn — one of the kinds that may not appear except when such verses are recited — and also to diagnose sihr that has been thrown into the sea; how often, when such verses are recited, does the patient fall or scream. These verses also torment the diving jinn, especially the verses of drowning."

Mountains

"Verses severe on the rebellious jinn (maradah), the servants of sihr and the kings of the jinn, on jinn who dwell in mountains and on those who place sihr on mountain-tops and in their holes; they are also useful for illnesses, boils, cancers and tumours."

Graves and “saints”

"These verses are for sihr buried in graves: when recited over some cases they expose the case. Also to expose the jinn of the graveyards, whether assigned to sihr or otherwise, and to expose a type of jinn that associates the 'saints' (awliya') in its worship — this type may not appear or react except when verses about shirk and the awliya', and the verses of tawhid, are mentioned."

Walking and feet

"These verses have an effect in some cases of paralysis caused by mass, 'ayn or sihr. They also reveal whether the paralysis is of a limb: on recitation the paralysed limb may move and movement increases, and the possessing agent may speak. They are also for one struck by the evil eye in his legs, and one who stepped on sihr or over it, or had it placed in his shoe — on recitation you find the legs trembling and moving strongly, and other things too long to explain."

Revival (iḥyā’)

"These verses have an effect in hopeless medical cases (coma, brain death, cancers), and in sihr of killing, and when the rebellious jinn dominate in some cases so that the patient does not move or perceive what is around him; also in cases of insanity, mental disability, atrophy of limbs, hair loss, and everything that falls under the meaning of 'dead'."

Fortresses

"Verses severe on those who fortify and hide themselves inside the body and outside it. After the first stages of ruqyah you find the case seemingly stable while the harm continues; so when these and similar verses are recited other things come to light. Also [useful] in cases of sihr, talismans and the like."

Angels

"These verses are very severe on the jinn and devils, Muslim and disbelieving alike; their effect is like the verses of punishment, subjugation and expulsion — indeed repeating the word 'angels' during recitation is very severe and has a clear effect when the harm and domination by the devils intensify."

Provision (rizq)

"These verses are recited over one struck by 'ayn or sihr and held back from earning a livelihood, and for sihr of 'stagnation', ruin, and aversion to work."
